Merge your sightseeing with your hobby and knit on an Icelandic horse, in a natural pool or on a hiking tour.
Knitting is tightly woven to the Icelandic national spirit. With more sheep than people, logically there has always been an abundance of wool around to use for all kinds of clothing. The most notable piece of clothing in later years is the Icelandic wool sweater, every Icelander owns one!
Make your trip a creative one!
Knitting has been part of the everyday chores in Iceland for centuries. An 18th century servant girl would be expected to produce one long stocking or knit a pair of short socks every day. Knitting was strictly utilitarian to produce warm and durable clothing for rough weathers. Icelandic woolen items were also traded extensively throughout the Atlantic basin.
Knitting is still a hugely popular pastime in Iceland. With the recent economic recession, it seems that the population is leaning back towards the old values, including knitting.
We offer tours where knitting is in the foreground, both short and long, with knitting instructors. For avid knitters Iceland is definitely the place to be.
