    Jökulsárlón & Ice-caving

Amazing sights such as Golden circle, Glacier lagoon & an Ice cave

This is the three day Iceland south coast package where you´ll see the famous Golden Circle, do a glacier hike, see the glacier lagoon and visit an ice cave.

    Day 1

We begin this journey with the Golden Circle. Our first stop is Thingvellir National Park where Iceland’s first parliament was founded in the year 930. Here you can see where the Europian and American tectonic plates are slowly splitting the country down the middle!

Next stop is Geysir hot spring area. It is from the Icelandic word "Geysir" that the English word "geyser" is  formed. Geysir is dormant most of the time but its successor Strokkur erupts every 10 minutes or so and its white column of boiling water can reach heights of 20-30 meters.

A few minutes’ drive away from Geysir is Gullfoss waterfall. Here you get to witness white water thundering down a 32 meters drop into an impressive canyon. This scene is spectacular when part of Gullfoss freezes over during winter!

After a we have seen the famous Golden circle we head towards the south coast and explore the black sand beach, amazing waterfalls, one of which you can walk behind, and other great sights not to be missed.

Day 2 The first thing we do on this day is visiting Vatnajökull glacier, the largest glacier in Europe. We put on our ice caving equipment and dive into this mesmerizing wonder of nature that is the ice cave. The color and transparency of the caves has everything to do with time, pressure, and secrecy. After having spent about 45 minutes in the cave we head to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The lagoon is particularly beautiful in low light. Our accommodation for tonight is a countryside hotel close by.
Day 3 Today we have time to look out for some seals or just check out the lagoon in a different light before we head back to Reykjavík. On the way back we will stop at Skaftafell national park and go for a 1-2 hour glacier hike. This is an easy hike and suitable for anyone. On  the  way  back  to  Reykjavik we have time to take a closer look at some of the places we were unable to visit on our way to Jökulsárlón. If the sky is clear on the way back we might get lucky and spot some northern lights.
