Visit this eruption site by foot, an awesome day tour combining super jeep sightseeing and hiking on lava that only recently exploded out of the Earth!
Right before Eyjafjallajökull barged in and stole its thunder, Fimmvörðuháls had one of the most spectacular eruptions Iceland has seen in decades.
The enormous rivers of molten lava and glowing lava towers spurting up from the ground attracted travelers from all over the world, and every Icelander with a 4 wheel drive went on regular visits to see the phenomenon while it lasted.
The runner up for most unpronouncable volcano name in Iceland...
When the eruption ended it left behind truckloads of hot lava that is still slowly cooling down and hardening. Since this is pretty much how our country was formed in the first place I guess you could say the eruption created a brand new part of Iceland!
Before the eruption, this was one of Iceland's most popular hiking destinations and now that the eruption has ended, it's even more popular!
We offer a great hiking day tour that not only shows you the volcanic area but also takes you around the region, occupied by many of the country's most beautiful sights.
