The best time to visit Iceland actually depends on what you wish to experience. The best climate is during the summer: June, July and August, but the winter in Iceland is really beautiful and has a lot to offer.
If you’re planning to visit Iceland, here are some fun ideas:
If you plan on seeing the Aurora Borealis, then the perfect time is during winter
- Explore Hella if you got more than a single day in Iceland. Look for a rental car at Keflavik and then drive 86 miles to Hella then you can stay at Hotel Ranga. In this way, you’re in optimal position to check out those places which are not typically included in any circle tours. Hotel Ranga is in fact listed somewhere as one of the Top 10 Remote Hotels in the World. Frankly, it’s not that remote. And it’s a recommended place to stay if you wish to get out of Reyjavik for one or 2 days.
- Head over to the South! It is just close to Reykjavik and lots to see and do. In the midst of the tourist “hot spot” Golden Circle (Geysir, Thingvellir and Gullfoss waterfall), you could try jet boating in their glacier rivers via the narrow lava canyons!
- For women travelers: Although the Blue Lagoon is wonderful, remember not to wet your hair since it contains high mineral content and would certainly make your hair extremely dry and a mess. It is actually a fun and marvelous place to swim—but just be careful not to dip your head.
Aside from these, you can also try these fun activities during your visit:
